How to find yourself

Have you ever felt like you’ve lost yourself somewhere along the way? Maybe life got noisy, responsibilities piled up, and one day, you looked in the mirror and wondered, “Where did I go?” It’s okay. Feeling disconnected from who you are happens to the best of us. But here’s the good news: you’re not gone! You’re just buried under layers of expectations, habits, and distractions that no longer serve you. Let’s talk about how to find your way back.

Create Space to Reflect

First, give yourself permission to pause. You can’t rediscover yourself while running on autopilot. Take a moment to sit with your thoughts, free of judgment. Ask yourself:

“What feels out of alignment in my life right now?”

“When was the last time I felt truly like myself?”

Sometimes, clarity begins with the questions we dare to ask ourselves.

Reconnect With What Matters

Your values are your compass. When life pulls you in too many directions, it’s easy to lose sight of them. Reflect on what’s truly important to you:

What do you believe in?

What brings you joy, peace, or fulfillment?

What qualities do you admire in yourself and others?

Your values are more than just ideals. They’re the framework of who you are. When you realign with them, the fog begins to lift.

Embrace Your Unique Process

You’re not like everyone else, so your way of finding yourself won’t look like anyone else’s. Maybe you’re a thinker who finds clarity in journaling. Maybe you process through movement, like a long walk or yoga session. Or perhaps you need creative expression such as painting, playing music, or cooking. Lean into the methods that work for you. This step isn’t about perfection; it’s about getting as close as you can to the things that make you tick.

Practice Being Present

You’ll never fully find yourself in the past or future. Who you are is always in the now. Spend time in the present moment. Breathe deeply. Take in the sounds, sights, and feelings of where you are. This practice of mindfulness helps you see through the noise and focus on what’s real. It’s grounding, and it reminds you of what’s already within you.

Start Small and Intentional

Don’t overwhelm yourself by thinking you have to overhaul your entire life overnight. Small, intentional actions are powerful:

• Revisit a hobby you used to love.

• Spend time with people who lift you up.

• Create boundaries around things that drain you.

Every small step is a breadcrumb leading you back to yourself. Trust that the little things will add up.

Celebrate and Keep Growing

Rediscovery is a process. Each layer you peel back reveals another part of you waiting to be seen. Celebrate the small wins along the way. Did you reconnect with an old passion? Did you make a choice that aligned with your values? That’s progress. And with each step, you’ll feel more and more like yourself again.
