My foundation
It started with a matrix called the Enneagram of Personality where I noticed overlap between its ideas, Myer’s Briggs, DISC, Strengths Finder, Love Languages, and a few other things. From there I got interested in psychology and neuroscience. After studying the work of many leaders in the field I was able to synthesize my understandings into an approach that helps me connect better with others. I’m in pursuit of scientifically backed understanding for a truly effective coaching experience via a degree in psychology but I do not want to offer treatment, therapy, or counsel. I want to use my understanding, in a coaching format to encourage people to make their own self-discoveries and actions.
The supporting science
The limbic system is a set of brain structures that handle our emotions and memories. Often called the "emotional brain," it helps us feel, learn, remember, and predict, playing a key role in how we react to the world around us.
The different areas work in tandem and are important to processing our immediate environment. The three functions I describe as Heart, Mind, Gut are symbolic representations of the way the limbic system processes experiences. Each person has a set of neural routes they’ve defaulted to over time. I am familiar with these processes and I use my understanding to coach, not teach, new pathways to open up.
I am able to tune in to your natural way of processing to find ways to engage, leverage, and enhance what’s already there.
Leading by example
My coaching approach isn’t just theory. I live it. I’ve used it to transform my own life, and I repeat it with those I help. In fact, I believe in it so strongly that I left my corporate job to dedicate myself fully to helping others.
Over the years, I’ve navigated a wide variety of work environments: unionized workplaces, corporate offices, factories, and the field. I’ve collaborated with municipalities, utilities, telecommunications companies, system integrators, and banks. My roles have ranged from building systems from scratch and running continuous improvement initiatives to managing software implementations and reverse-engineering processes. I’ve been a student, a trainer, a facilitator, and a manager. And when it comes to personalities, I’ve encountered—and learned from—them all, myself included.
There’s no shortage of advice or trendy approaches. Some fade quickly, while others linger for years. Yet, the human conundrum continues to challenge them all. Through my experiences and studies, I’ve uncovered a common denominator that transcends roles, functions, and industries: A thread of human behavior interwoven through it all.
Drawing on insights from tools like DISC, StrengthsFinder, Myers-Briggs, and Attachment Styles, I’ve synthesized a coaching approach that integrates wisdom from many perspectives. This approach has proven transformative, not just for my clients, but for me as well. Coaching begins with a commitment to growth, and I am proof of that commitment.
